About the CVFD

The Clifton Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1907 and is currently made up of 31 Volunteers dedicated to saving lives and preserving property. The CVFD provides fire coverage for not only the city of Clifton, but an area around Clifton, of approx. 198 square miles. CVFD provides Mutual aid for Meridian, Cranfills Gap, Valley Mills, and West Shore fire departments. However the CVFD does provide some mutual aid for the far north departments in the county when needed. The CVFD currently has 11 apparatus in service.

The Clifton Volunteer Fire Department was officially formed in 1907 after a fire that destroyed much of the downtown area on December 23, 1906. The very first CVFD was formed the following spring. Though no full list of original members can be found, two known original members of the CVFD were J. Newton Fallis and L.E. Tennison. The first chief is believed to be Mr. Fallis (mentioned above).
